HIGHLIGHTS ALONG THE ROAD The open air museum 1915 – 1918 on Plöcken pass is the biggest museum of its kind in the world. It is opened from spring to autumn and exhibits displays, barracks, galleries and stands of the mountain warfare from 1915 to 1918. The entry is free. A long stroll in the town is recommended in Villach. Wonderfully situated on the banks of Drau, extremely committed to environment protection Villach, glitters with its historic core that is ruled by its generous main square. 80 The Goldeck Panoramic Road is one of the five worth seeing alpine roads of Grossglockner Hochalpenstrassen AG. Higher up on the Villach Alpine Road one arrives at the Goldeck Panoramic Road. The 15-kilometres-long route starts to the north-west of Feistritz in Zlan and with its ten turns excites also the most experienced specialist of the Alps. One reaches the 2,142-metre-high Goldeck summit in 45 minutes on foot from the parking area. A stop on the Villach Alpine Road at the viewing platform “Rote Wand” (red wall) with its splendid view of the rockfalls of 1348 and 2015 is also worthwhile. Not far from there around 800 alpine plants from three climate zones flourish on the 10,000 m² wide area of the alpine gardens. 1 The end point of the road, Rosstratte, ensures the best scenery. 2 The geological nature trail “From the sea to the mountain” is located direct next to the children-adventure-playground. 3 The blossom in the Alpine Garden (1,483 m). 4 The Dobratsch nature park an Eldorado for amateur ornithologists. Not only the hang-gliders and para-gliders will be happy in Greifenburg. The Mecca for the aerial sports people, is a real crowd magnet with its magnificent castle. With the car: Apart from occasionally narrow pass roads, flawless journey. With the motorbike: The southern part of Nassfeld pass requires a steady vehicle control otherwise it is pure driving pleasure. Highest point: Rest station Rosstratte, Villach Alpine Road, 1,732 m Special feature of the tour: Rosstratte in the Villach Alpine Road with relaxing loungers, stone monoliths, a sky disc from Nebra and a sundial.
