TRIP INTO THE COUNTRY On this tour we cruise proceeding from the Möll valley through the UNESCO-Biosphere Reserve Nockberge, where we pamper ourselves in a good Carinthian way in numerous alpine huts and restaurants. Through the Lungau we reach Salzburg’s famous winter sport resorts and then we have to decide between the two variants for the return journey. TOUR 3 NOCKALM ROAD We leave the Glockner region on the federal road 107 through the Möll valley in the southern direction and enjoy the soft curves of the roads, which follow the course of the Möll. If the weather is on our side, the view is magnificent – the three-thousanders of the Hohe Tauern on the left and right side, the barely lower peaks of the Kreuzeck mountain range are in front of us. The place name signs of Winklern and Obervellach pass by. The castle Falkenstein and the castle Groppenstein tower high over the Möll valley 1 . We take a look at the Drauhofen castle and then roll through Spittal 2 . Its landmark is Schloss Porcia (Porcia castle) one of the most significant Renaissance buildings out of Italy. A narrow byroad bring us to curvy region above the lake bed on the western peak of the Millstatt lake to Gmünd, where the route latches on to the federal road 99 for a couple of kilometres. 61 UNESCO-BIOSPHERE RESERVE On Krems bridge in Carinthia we turn right and turn to the highlight of this round: the wonderful romantic Nockalm road 3 . The almost 34-kilometres-long panoramic road is lined uniquely and exclusively with alpine pastures and rest points. Designed in 1971 and inaugurated in 1981, Nockalm road curves in 52 turns (it is called as “Reidn” in Carinthian) and endless curves between the toll
